Pontnewydd Ladies Choir was formed 60 years ago with a membership of just 7. During the last 23 years with Shirley Adams as Music Director, the choir has flourished and now has 52 members. Hannah Merrett joined us as accompanist in January 2008 and has proved to be a great asset. The Choir is also fortunate in having Sonia Gilmore as Deputy Music Director.
The Choir has been successful in competition but sings mainly for pleasure. Many charities have benefited from our concerts – Children’s Charity in Ukraine, and United Kingdom, Cancer Research, Local Churches and hospitals. In October 2008 the Choir travelled to Jersey, Channel Islands to give a concert in aid of another worthy cause. In 2010 we visited Ghent our concerts were in Aalst and Brugge.
